The 6th annual Paediatric Pharmaceutical Care International Masterclass, developed by Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (London UK) provides an update on the latest developments in paediatric pharmacy and aims to discuss best practice methods in the safe use of medicines in children.
Developed by the expert pharmaceutical team at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS, the masterclass combines lectures with a strong practical element including:
• patient interaction and bedside case reviews
• role play and group work based on real life hospital situations
• case studies and practical demonstrations
The highlight of the course offers delegates a unique opportunity to take part in patient case reviews at the hospital bedside on paediatric wards in Evelina London, providing valuable insight into the role of paediatric pharmacists within the hospital setting.
Course topics include:
• Practical pharmacology
• Safe purchasing (unlicensed versus licensed)
• Paediatric formulations
• Medication errors and prescription monitoring
• The role of the pharmacy technician in clinical areas
• Management of the chronic child
• Management of the critically ill child
The masterclass is aimed at international qualified and practising pharmacists with an interest in paediatric pharmaceutical care and UK pharmacists are also welcome to attend.
The masterclass is part of a Kings Health Partners initiative and is run in collaboration with the International Alliance for Better Medicines for Children and Global Research in Paediatrics.
Due to the practical format of the course, places on the masterclass are limited. If delegates require accommodation, the hospital has a limited number of rooms at competitive rates.
