European Conference on Rare Diseases & Orphan Products (ECRD)

The European Conference on Rare Diseases & Orphan Products (ECRD) is recognised globally as the largest, patient-led rare disease event in which collaborative dialogue, learning and conversation takes place, forming the groundwork to shape goal-driven rare disease policies and allow for important and innovative discussions on a national and an international level to take place.

European policies are influenced by the priorities of their member countries. Rare diseases are featured on the agenda of the upcoming Trio of EU Council Presidencies, held by France, Czech Republic and Sweden between January 2022 and June 2023. ECRD 2022 has been designated as an official event of the 2022 French Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which demonstrates considerable support to keep rare diseases as a priority.

On an international level, the United Nations’ adoption of a Resolution on Addressing the Challenges of Persons Living with a Rare Disease in December 2021 also creates the enthusiasm and opportunity to align the European and UN agendas.

It is therefore now the time to consider a new policy framework for Rare Diseases in Europe. This framework would provide an opportunity to set three ambitious goals and a number of sub-targets to tackle Europe’s challenges:

  1. Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all people living with a rare disease at all
  2. Reduce inequality within and among countries by focusing on equity for people living with a rare disease
  3. Building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industry and forstering innovation for people living with a rare disease

19th SFPC Congress – 13-16 March 2022 – Strasbourg (France)

Dear colleagues,

The Société Française de Pharmacie Clinique SFPC (French Society of Clinical Pharmacy) is pleased to announce its 19th Congress, which will be held in Strasbourg, France, from March 13 to 16, 2022, with the theme Pharmaceutical care: at the crossroads of patient management. This event will be an opportunity to see how the evolution of the integrative model of clinical pharmacy is leading us to resize our profession and our practices to integrate the notion of pharmaceutical care, to discover in this context some innovative practices in ambulatory clinical pharmacy and to exchange our professional experiences in the face of exceptional situations such as the COVID-19 health crisis. In addition, each participant can choose to take part in workshops on various topics that will provide an opportunity to deepen professional practice on targeted patient pathways (cardiology, surgery, rheumatology, psychiatry, geriatrics, pediatrics, etc.) or on methods of optimization in the performance of clinical pharmacy acts. Each learner builds his or her own learning path by choosing the workshops that are best suited to his or her practice. Times of exchange, sharing and conviviality will punctuate these days rich in scientific content. Finally, you will be able to discover Strasbourg, a dynamic city through its heritage (architecture, historical districts), its gastronomy but also its university, its European vision (European institutions such as the EDQM and the European Pharmacopoeia), and its ecological approach with regard to its multiple bicycle paths.

We expect many of you to participate in this congress.

Survey focusing on emergency and disaster pharmacy

In 2016, the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) published pharmacy guidelines for responding to natural disasters which aim at helping pharmacists to prepare and manage natural disasters situations. Moreover FIP has issued statement of policy about role of the pharmacist in disaster management this year. Then, a survey is being conducted to determine how hospital pharmacies in Europe are prepared for a natural or manmade disaster and whether they have specifically followed these guidelines since their publications. Moreover, the survey tries to make an inventory of hospital pharmacies that already faced disaster situations and to collect information on how theses hospital pharmacies have managed the disaster situation.

This survey was initiated by Prof Pascal Bonnabry (Chief-pharmacist at the pharmacy of Geneva University Hospitals) and Dr Nicolas Widmer (Chief-pharmacist at thepharmacy of Eastern Vaud Hospitals), who have been mandated by the Swiss Confederation to develop a Centre for Emergency and Disaster Pharmacy at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. Its objectives are to offer research and teaching in this field.

Participation in the survey should not take more than 10-15 minutes to fill in case major events were not experienced in the last 5 years. For hospital pharmacies that were faced with a disaster situation the completion of the survey will take less than 30-40 minutes. All answers are welcome even if your hospital pharmacy doesn’t have any special preparedness plan, since every answer is important to FIP.

Answers should be submitted by 22nd December 2017.
