47th ESCP Symposium on Clinical Pharmacy in Belfast

47th ESCP Symposium on Clinical Pharmacy in Belfast

Theme:Personalised Pharmacy Care

Venue: Belfast Waterfront Conference & Exhibition Centre

Description: As the genomics revolution proceeds apace, it is becoming increasingly important within a number of disease states, to stratify therapy according to the genetic make-up of the individual patient, or in the case of cancer, the genetic / molecular pathology aspects of the tumour being managed. Clinical pharmacists must be at the forefront of this change in practice and lead the way in ensuring full adherence with the best evidence as it emerges. Other aspects of individual patients (including psychosocial) also influence their ‘phenotype’ when it comes to medicines use. Multiple risk factors influence a patient’s ability to manage their medicines within their home setting, with too many patients readmitted to hospital, with medication related problems, within the first 30 days post discharge. Some excellent work on evaluating risk factors for medication related problems has shown that specific pharmacy interventions can be targeted to patients based on their risk profile. A ‘one size fits all’ approach is wasteful of scarce resources and does not promote the effective and efficient care of individual patients. All aspects of clinical pharmacy practice will be discussed at the symposium, but we hope that the symposium theme will stimulate you to focus upon ‘personalised pharmacy care’.

The scientific programme will include keynote lectures, invited lectures, mini-symposia, workshops, oral free communications, poster discussion fora, and poster presentations.

24th Congress of the EAHP

EAHP is very pleased to invite you to the 24th EAHP Congress, which will take place in this gorgeous city from 27-29 March 2019. The Congress theme is “Personalised Hospital Pharmacy – meeting the needs of every patient“. The title itself says a lot. The origins of the pharmacy were very much personalised and recently we have been rediscovering the need for tailored medication and approach to treatment for different patient groups and individuals. The scientific program of the Congress is also tailored to the needs of individual hospital pharmacists and their interest groups as the Congress offers the possibility to choose between many parallel sessions, keynote presentations, workshops and symposia. EAHP believes that the role of hospital pharmacists in personalised medication is the key to success. Therefore, we are preparing an advanced program that will serve as the source of knowledge and inspiration that are needed for our future role and engagement in personalised medication.

The EAHP Congress is also an opportunity to meet colleagues from Europe and all over the world, to share experience and ideas and to learn from each other. EAHP is fostering advancement in hospital pharmacy practice for the benefit of our patients. Sharing expertise and best practices is certainly one of the best ways to accelerate our success. The EAHP Congress, the largest hospital pharmacy Congresses in Europe, provides an optimal platform for this sharing and education but also for the pure joy of meeting fellow hospital pharmacists, colleagues and friends.

2018 Synergy Masterclass, 5-6 October 2018, Brussels, Belgium

The first Synergy Masterclass will take place on 5-6 October, 2018, in Brussels!
Limited seats are available! Deadline to register: 10 August 2018.

ABSTRACT

In this masterclass the themes of leadership and management will be explored, in particular the difference between these two concepts.
  • Leadership is to do with vision, in particular being able to communicate a vision and getting buy–in, it’s about motivating people and inspiring them.
  • Management, on the other hand, is to do with goals, targets, staffing, budgeting, performance management and problem solving. Managers build teams and ensure they function efficiently and effectively, whereas leaders inspire them. In a nutshell, ‘Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things‘ (Drucker. P).

This masterclass through a series of presentations and workshops that draw from the expertise of both delegates and facilitators will explore themes related to both leadership and management.
