1. Current status, Position

  • Emeritus professor of Biopharmaceutics, Utrecht University;
  • Chair of the Board of the Dutch Top Institute Pharma

2. Education

Crommelin was trained as a pharmacist at the University of Groningen, after his Ph.D. education at Leiden University he did a postdoc training at the University of Michigan under prof. W.I. Higuchi. After returning to the Netherlands he became full professor in Pharmaceutics at Utrecht University. From 2005-2011 he was scientific director of the Dutch Top Institute Pharma, a large public-private partnership with participants from Dutch academia, including hospital pharmacists, global pharma industry and SMEs.

3. Research area

Crommelin worked in the fields of drug targeting i.e. (targeted and non-targeted) liposomes and polymeric particles, the formulation of pharmaceutical proteins and non-viral gene delivery systems.
