1. Current Status, Position

Mr Stephen Brown is currently Regional Chief Pharmacist for the South of England for NHS England and NHS Improvement. He is one of the four regional pharmacists responsible for overseeing Medicines Optimisation and Pharmacy services in England, and he is also Chair of the Patient Access Scheme Liaison Unit Expert Panel for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence.

2. Education

Mr Stephen Brown studied Pharmacy at the University of London and registered as a Pharmacist in 1981. He obtained an MSc in Pharmacology in 1984, and an MBA in 1995. Following a 20-year period as Director of Pharmacy at the University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust he moved to his strategic role with NHS England in 2017.

3. Research Area

Mr Stephen Brown has focused on a broad spectrum of pharmacy practice areas but has particularly engaged with work in medication safety, and with delivery of best value from the use of medicines.
