Pharmadanmark’s aim is to secure its members the best conditions in terms of pay, employment and career development. Pharmadanmark achieves this using their unique knowledge of the pharmaceutical sector.
Pharmadanmark has 8,172 members which include professionals within all the pharmaceutical sciences, including hospital pharmacists. The association represents 587 hospital pharmacists working in 9 hospital pharmacies.
They are typically employed within one of these areas:
- Pharmaceutical industry: Sixty percent (research, development, formulation, registration and marketing)
- The public sector: Twenty-two percent (hospitals, the Danish Medicines Agency, and the University of Copenhagen’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences)
- Private pharmacies: Eighteen percent (pharmaceutical experts)
In Denmark there are no specialisation requirements or training programs in Hospital Pharmacy. In addition, pharmacists working in the hospital sector are not recognised with the title of hospital pharmacist. However it is hoped that this will change soon, following an application in 2014 to the Department of Health.
