Abstract

A hospital pharmacy director is accountable for the management of medicinal products and all other health goods used in the hospital. While the pathway for medicines is very clear in terms of responsibility and tasks, this is not always the case for “borderline products” as, for example, medical devices (e.g., custom made), medical gases, disinfectants and diagnostics. A specific expertise needs to be implemented in the pharmacy staff, and specific interaction with other central offices need to be very clear in order to get a smooth management. Special expertise needs to be in place for procurement and vigilance on the safe use.

The seminar will focus on the management pathways of these products, providing information on the level of expertise needed, responsibilities of the hospital pharmacy, as well as models of management.
