Abstract:

Hospital pharmacy is providing recognized and appreciated services within hospitals and the national health care system. Hospital pharmacists provide comprehensive clinical and non-clinical work in the 46 Austrian hospital pharmacies. The profession is connected to other health care specialists and emphazises a truly interdisciplinary working style. During the seminar Austrian hospital pharmacists cover a broad range of different topics, exemplifying areas of continuous interest, ongoing change, steady development and existing uncertainty. Hospital pharmacists talk about their activities in the fields of production, supply of pharmacy goods, clinical pharmacy, human resources and address the issue of drug safety and pharmacovigilance. These individual presentations are embedded in interesting facts and figures about the Austrian health care system and Austria itself. The seminar is directed to interested pharmacists and pharmacy students.

Teaching goals:

  • Presentations on highly relevant hospital pharmacy issues in Austria
  • Sharing the Austrian experience with other hospital pharmacy colleagues and students
  • Describing the structure and key characteristics of the Austrian health care system

Learning objectives:

After attending the seminar delegates should be able to:

  • summarize ongoing hospital pharmacy activities across Austria
  • have gained general insights in the Austrian health care system
  • should be able to state key involvements of hospital pharmacists in the Austrian health care system
