Current position
Professor Michael Scott
is a Director of the regional Medical Optimisation & Innovation Centre in Northern Ireland. MOIC undertakes research, service evaluation and innovation activities on behalf of the Department of Health in Northern Ireland. Michael is also an honorary Professor of Hospital pharmacy practice at The Queens University of Belfast, and a visiting Professor at Ulster University.

Education
Michael studied Pharmacy at The Queens University of Belfast and graduated in 1978, in 1982 he was awarded a PhD in Pharmacology at The Queens University of Belfast.

Research area
His research has focused on all aspects of medicines optimisation, most notably developing the integrated medicines management model in hospital pharmacy. He has also worked extensively in the area of polypharmacy, especially in respect of older citizens and multiple long term conditions. In addition he has also undertaken research in the area of antimicrobial stewardship and antimicrobial resistance.
