1. Current Status, position:

Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy, University of Groningen, The Netherlands.
 
2. Education:

Dr. Frijlink received his pharmaceutical training at the University of Groningen (The Netherlands), where he received his Ph.D. degree in Pharmaceutical Technology. He served for two years as a pharmacist in the Martini Hospital (Groningen, Nl). From 1992 to 1997 he worked in the Pharmaceutical Development Department of Solvay Pharmaceuticals. Since 1998 Dr. Frijlink is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy at the Groningen University Institute of Drug Exploration.
 
3. Research Area:

The main interests of his current research are technical and biopharmaceutical aspects of pulmonary drug delivery and the development of dry powder inhalers. Systemic delivery of peptides proteins and vaccines through pulmonary administration, using stabilizing sugar glasses is a further research topic in his department. Furthermore, he is interested in solid oral dosage forms their technological and biopharmaceutical aspects and gastro-intestinal targeting strategies. Finally, he is interested in production, scale up and quality aspects of pharmaceutical production.
 
He is (co-) author of more than 120 original articles in peer reviewed journals in the field of Pharmaceutical technology and named as (co-)inventor in 11 patents in the field of pharmaceutical dosage forms.
