The EAHP Board, elected for three-year terms, oversees the association’s activities. Comprising directors responsible for core functions, it meets regularly to implement strategic goals. Supported by EAHP staff, the Board controls finances, coordinates congress organization, and ensures compliance with statutes and codes of conduct.

EAHP General Assembly welcomes new President and adopts position on procurement

- During the 48thgeneral Assembly, which was held in Bucharest, EAHP members welcomed the new president of EAHP, Petr Horák (Czech Republic) and elected 4 board members.
- EAHP adopted a new position paper that shows the commitment of hospital pharmacists in procurement.
- EAHP approved the review of the position of the position paper on antimicrobial resistance and the technical update of the biosimilar medicines position paper.
Between 7 and 10 June, the members of the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP) gathered for their annual General Assembly in Bucharest, Romania. Delegates from EAHP’s member countries used this opportunity to discuss current policy topics as well as the future development of EAHP and the hospital pharmacy profession in Europe.
Petr Horák was welcomed as EAHP’s new President. For the next 3 years he will be leading the association. Petr works as Chief Pharmacist at the Hospital Pharmacy of the University Hospital Motol in Prague, Czech Republic. In addition, he is a part-time lecturer at the Institute for Postgraduate Medical Education in Prague. Prior to becoming President-Elect in June 2017, Petr served on the EAHP Board as Director for Professional Development and Director of Finance.
As EAHP’s decision-making body, the General Assembly voted on the adoption of 3 position papers and elected 4 Board members. EAHP is delighted to welcome Piera Polidori (Italy) to the Board and congratulates Aida Batista (Portugal) András Süle (Hungary) and Rob Moss (The Netherlands) on their re-election. Aida will continue to serve as Vice President of EAHP, while András will resume his role as Director of Finance. Both Piera and Rob will support the work of the EAHP Board as Directors of Professional Development.
During the General Assembly, delegates received updates on the core activities of EAHP and current policy developments. Discussions centred around the implementation of the 44 European Statements of Hospital Pharmacy, the Common Training Framework for hospital pharmacy specialisation and the Falsified Medicines Directive.
A new position paper on procurement advocating for the involvement of hospital pharmacists, was adopted. Moreover, the position on antimicrobial resistance was reviewed to put a stronger emphasis on the contribution by hospital pharmacists to antibiotic stewardship. Lastly, EAHP’s position paper on biosimilar medicines was technically updated to allow for the inclusion of a reference to the Information Guide for Healthcare Professionals on Biosimilars in the EU prepared by the European Commission and the European Medicines Agency.
Speaking after the General Assembly, EAHP President Petr Horák said: “I am honoured to take over the presidency from Joan Peppard, who since she joined, the Board in 2012 and in particular as President for the past 3 years worked continuously on the advancement of the Common Training Framework (CTF) project and the implementation of the 44 European Statements of Hospital Pharmacy. During my term as President of EAHP I will drive forward with the work on the development of the hospital pharmacy profession. I am delighted to continue this journey with my fellow Board members and Joan who agreed to advise the Board for an additional year as Immediate Past President.”
EAHP is an association of national organisations across 35 countries representing hospital pharmacists at the European level. It was founded in 1972 and focuses on the development of the hospital pharmacy profession to ensure the continuous improvement of care and outcomes for patients in the hospital setting. This is achieved through science, research, education, practice, as well as sharing best-practice and responsibility with other healthcare professionals.
