1. Current Status, Position

  • Since 1996 Kees van Grootheest is director of the Netherlands Pharmacovigilance Centre Lareb.
  • In 2003 he got his PhD at the State University of Groningen on the thesis ‘Improving pharmacovigilance and the role of the pharmacist’.
  • Since 2007 he is, besides working for Lareb, also Professor of Pharmacovigilance at the University of Groningen (section Pharmacy).

2. Education

  • 1965 – 1972: – University: Medicines at the Free University at Amsterdam
  • 1972 – 1974: Internship surgery and gynaecology/obstretics in hospital at Haarlem and Amsterdam
  • 1974: National Course on Tropical Medicine at the Royal Tropical Institute at Amsterdam

3. Research Area

Kees van Grootheest’s main research topics are the value of ADR reports for signal detection. The contribution of different subgroups of potential reporters to signal detection and clinical and strategic aspects of drug safety in general.
