1. Current Status, Position

Prof Ugo Moretti is a Professor of Pharmacology at School of Medicine of the University of Verona. He is the Director of the Regional Pharmacovigilance Centre of the Veneto Region and of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano. Prof Moretti is a Member of the Technical Scientific Committee for Pharmacovigilance of the Italian medicines Agency (AIFA) and also, a Member of the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group – Nitag on vaccines for the Italian Ministry of Health.

2. Education

Prof Ugo Moretti graduated with honours in Biological Science at the University of Parma in 1984.

3. Research Area

Prof Ugo Moretti is an expert in pharmacovigilance and pharmacoepidemiology, with special reference to planning and analysis of databases in pharmacovigilance, data-mining analysis, signal detection analysis in spontaneous reporting systems and terminologies. He was the lead of many research projects at both national and international levels. As the Head of the Regional Pharmacovigilance Centre and within an agreement between Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) and the University of Verona (Pharmacology and Informatics Departments), he leads the signal detection activities of the national pharmacovigilance database and leads a project developing a web-based tool for data- mining of spontaneous reporting data and for web reporting for the National Agency. He is also consultant of AIFA for drug and reactions terminologies issues (eg WHO-ART and MedDRA).
