1. Current Status, Position

Dr. Lisa McCarthy is a Clinician Scientist with the Institute for Better Health and Pharmacy Department at Trillium Health Partners, a large community-based academic hospital in Canada. Her clinical practice is with Seniors Services. She is also an Associate Professor with the University of Toronto’s Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy and Temerty Faculty of Medicine. 

2. Education

Dr. Lisa McCarthy completed her pharmacy studies at the University of Toronto (BScPhm 2002; PharmD 2005) and an ambulatory care specialty residency program (2003). She also undertook a post-PharmD research fellowship and obtained an MSc in Health Research Methodology (2010) from McMaster University.

3. Research Area

Dr. Lisa McCarthy leads research that aims to optimize medication experiences for people and to reduce medication-related harm for people, organizations, and health systems. She is a recognized expert in the fields of problematic polypharmacy, with particular expertise in deprescribing and prescribing cascades, and care transitions.
