The EAHP Board, elected for three-year terms, oversees the association’s activities. Comprising directors responsible for core functions, it meets regularly to implement strategic goals. Supported by EAHP staff, the Board controls finances, coordinates congress organization, and ensures compliance with statutes and codes of conduct.

1. Current Status, Position
Ms Peppard (BSc (Pharm) BA (Mgt) MA(Ethics)) is Chief Pharmacist and Head of Department in the Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore. She is also the President of the EAHP.
With a keen interest in the growth and development of hospital pharmacy and a strong commitment to excellence in patient care, Ms Peppard served in a leadership capacity on a number of key committees in Ireland at local, regional and national level including Presidency of the Hospital Pharmacists Association Ireland from 2004 – 2006 and 2011 – 2012. As President of the EAHP since 2015 she is involved in numerous issues focused on improvement in patient care through implementation of the European Statements of Hospital Pharmacy, development of a common training framework for recognition of hospital pharmacy as a specialisation, and annual surveys of European Hospital Pharmacy practice in conjunction with hospital pharmacy self assessment to measure progress in these areas.
2. Education
Ms Peppard completed her Bachelor of Science Degree (B.Sc. Pharm) in University College Dublin. She undertook a Diploma in Healthcare Management and a Bachelor of Administration (B.A. Public Management) in the Institute of Public Administration (Dublin). Ms Peppard undertook a two year Leadership course with the Office of Health Management (University of Limerick) and in recent years completed a Masters of Ethics Degree (M.A. Ethics) in Dublin City University with a thesis on Clinical Ethics Committees in Ireland.
3. Research Area
As Head of a hospital Pharmacy department Ms Joan Peppard is responsible for Medication Management and Pharmacy services within the hospital. As president of EAHP she leads the EAHP team in representing and developing the hospital pharmacy profession within Europe in order to ensure the continuous improvement of care and outcomes for patients in the hospital setting.
