1. Current Status, Position

Prof Irene Krämer (PhD, PharmD) is the Director of the Pharmacy Department at the University Medical Center, Johannes Gutenberg-University, Mainz, and is also Professor of Clinical Pharmacy in the Pharmacy School at the same institution.

2. Education

Dr Krämer studied pharmacy at the Pharmacy School of Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz, Germany. She completed a Ph. D. study in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and a postdoctoral thesis in Pharmaceutical Technology with the title: “Development, quality assurance, and optimisation of ready-to-use parenteral solutions in the integrated cancer care concept”. Since many years she manages the Pharmacy Department of a large University Hospital and teaches Clinical Pharmacy at the Faculty of Pharmacy.

3. Research Area

The research projects of Dr Krämer focus on experimental studies of the physicochemical and microbiological stability of cytotoxic drugs and the compatibility of admixtures of nebulizer solutions. Moreover, a number of research projects deal with the improvement of medication safety by medication reconciliation and electronic medication plans. She performed numerous studies regarding medication adherence of patients. Electronic bottles and blister packages are used for objective measurements of adherence. Her special interests include oncology pharmacy, infectious diseases, and aseptic drug preparation. She is an expert in protein drugs and biosimilars.
