Dr. Huttner (MD) is research investigator and infectious disease physician.

2. Education

Dr. Huttner received a medical doctorate from the New York University School of Medicine, and completed a residency in internal medicine at Columbia University (NY, NY) in 2003. She then moved to Switzerland, where she completed a fellowship in clinical infectious diseases in 2009. Since her return to Switzerland in 2012, she has been conducting clinical research in infection control.

3. Research Area

The base of her research is clinical trials in infection control, with distinct branches in:

(1) antibiotic optimisation to reduce resistance (pharmacokinetics, therapeutic drug monitoring, testing of novel beta-lactams and “old antibiotics,” duration studies, etc.) and

(2) early vaccine development (phase I/II testing of the VSV-Ebola vaccine candidate, a conjugated Escherichia coli vaccine candidate, etc.).

Dr. Huttner is an investigator in the EU-funded AIDA project, whose overall goal is to reduce the burden of antimicrobial resistance in and beyond Europe by defining optimal antibiotic choices and dosing regimens of the off-patent antibiotics in the treatment of infections caused by multi-resistant bacteria.
