1. Current Status, Position

Prof Dr Kroemer (Dr. rer. nat./ Pharmacy) is Chairman of the Managing Board and Dean Medical School.

In 1998 he was first appointed Professor of Clinical Pharmacy at the University of Bonn (GER) before moving to the Chair of Pharmacology at the University of Greifswald (GER) in the same year. In Greifswald, he initiated the construction of the Competence Center of Drug Absorption and Transport, which is unique in Germany (est. 2011). Since 2012, Prof Dr Kroemer ist a full-time dean and chairman of the management bord of the University Medical Center Göttingen.

2. Education

Prof Dr Kroemer studied pharmacy at the TU Braunschweig (GER) and received his PhD at the Dr Margarete Fischer-Bosch Institute for Clinical Pharmacology in Stuttgart (GER) with a thesis about hemodilution treatment of stroke. Following a short research stay at University of Basel (CH) with Prof U. A. Meyer, he spent two postdoc years at Vanderbilt University (USA) with Prof D. Roden before he returned to Stuttgart in 1989. Three years later, Prof Dr Kroemer earned his habilitation for pharmacology and toxicology at the University of Tübingen (GER).

3. Research Area

Prof Dr Kroemer’s research is focused on drug metabolism and transport. In particular, he is interested in cardioactive substances and cytostatics, as well as in improving drug targeting.
