1. Current Status, Position

  • Hospital pharmacist, clinical pharmacologist at the Catharina Hospital, Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
  • Fellow, department of Signal Processing Systems, Faculty Electrical Engineering, University of Technology, Eindhoven.

2. Education

René Grouls (1955) obtained his PharmD in 1985 at the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands. Thereafter he was trained as a hospital pharmacist during four years in the Catharina-Hospital in Eindhoven and is employed there since that date. In 1997 he obtained his PhD in pharmacology at the University of Utrecht on the thesis “Long-lasting Analgesia after epidural administration of a n-butyl-p-aminobenzoate suspension”. In the same year he became registered as clinical pharmacologist by the Dutch Society of Clinical Pharmacology & Biopharmacy. He is the (co)-author of more than 75 scientific publications, chairman of the Certified Institutional Ethics Committee of the Catharina Hospital since 1996 and  member of the Council of the European Association of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.

3. Research Area

His current research line: Clinical Decision Support in Individualized Medication Safety Management.
