Current position
Dr. Gabriella Rizzo is currently a Specialist in Infectious Diseases since 2001, working in Cork University Hospital since 2004, and since February 2023 she is a Consultant and clinical lead for the HIV PrEP Clinic/SIVUH in Cork. She is a Clinical Tutor/lecturer in University College Cork since 2005 with a Master in Health Professions Education, and a Clinical Tutor for the Basic and Higher Training Schemes -Royal College of Physician of Ireland.
Education
Before moving to Ireland, Gabriella trained and worked as an Infectious Disease Physician in Rome, in the “Gemelli Hospital” – Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Rome. She completed her specialist training and MD on “Multidrug-resistant HIV” and she was one of the first in Italy to work on the HIV genotyping test.
Research area
As a lecturer, Gabriella has a particular interest in the integration of inclusion medicine, sustainable and planetary medicine in the undergraduate curriculum. She also works closely with the Molecular Virology Department, supporting undergraduate clinical and laboratory research in virology. As a clinician, Gabriela has an extensive experience in HIV medicine, with a particular interest in pregnancy and wellbeing in women living with HIV and HIV prevention.
