EAHP’s 23rd Congress puts the hospital pharmacy profession in the spotlight
EAHP’s 23rd Congress puts the hospital pharmacy profession in the spotlight
8 March 2018
This year’s Congress is dedicated to showcasing the achievements of hospital pharmacists. Once again, the Scientific Committee under the lead of Prof Dr Kees Neef, Director of Education, Science and Research of the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP) has developed an informative congress programme in which we trust all will find sessions of interest to assist with their daily practice.
Linked to the theme – “Hospital pharmacists – Show us what you can do!” and the 6 Sections of the European Statements of Hospital Pharmacy workshops, different seminars and 5 Synergy Satellites have been prepared by the Scientific Committee. The efficient, the effective and the productive pharmacists will introduce Congress attendees to different concepts linked to team membership, process and workforce planning. Other sessions, will clarify the hospital pharmacists role in dealing with advanced therapy medicinal products and risk assessments as well as in hospital mergers and clinical trial regulation committees. Biosimilar medicines – covering aspects linked to the essentials of biologics, cancer care and breast cancer treatment – together with anticoagulation and automation make up this year’s Synergy Programme.
Medicines shortages will also feature prominently with a seminar dedicated to the impact of shortages on patient outcome and the workload for hospital pharmacists. Different possible actions to deal with or better avoid medicine shortages in hospitals will be discussed. Linked to this seminar and as a follow-up to the 2014 report on Medicine Shortages in European Hospitals – The evidence and case for action, the EAHP is planning to launch a European wide initiative in the coming weeks.
EAHP’s Congress app has gotten a little face-lift with the help of Bayer’s sponsorship. The newly redesigned programme agenda allows for easy navigation and ensures that attendees won’t miss out on the fascinating synergy satellites and seminars that await them from 21st to 23rd March in Gothenburg, Sweden. Congress participants with similar interests can make use of our new matchmaking feature to share contact information. By installing “EAHP 2018”, now available in all app stores, the latest news as well as the chance to post your comments, experiences and special moments are only a click away thanks to the apps dynamic activity feed.
For the 23rd Congress, the EAHP has teamed up with Children’s Cancer Netherlands (KiKa). The EAHP FunRun will provide everyone that remembered to pack running shoes with the opportunity to explore the cultural sides of Gothenburg at slow speed, while at the same time supporting children in need.
The EAHP would like to welcome its newest Corporate Partner MSD. Moreover, we would like to thank again our Platinum Partners, Amgen, Bayer, Pfizer, BMS Pfizer Alliance, and our Corporate Partners, MSD and Omnicell for their support. Our sponsorship package contains valuable information for those interested in supporting EAHP.
Prof Dr Kees Neef, Director of Education, Science and Research of the EAHP and chair of the Scientific Committee added “I am hoping that many colleagues will join us for this year’s edition of the EAHP Congress. Like every year, the programme that was prepared by the Scientific Committee focuses very much on the advancement of the hospital pharmacy profession. However, this year participants will also be able to learn more about the marketing of our profession. In particular, Ms Catherine Picton, our speaker for keynote 3, has prepared an interesting session that will encourage hospital pharmacists to show their fellow healthcare professional colleagues what they can do. Through enabling our congress participants to promote their day-to-day work, we hopefully will contribute to making the hospital pharmacy profession more known.“
