EAHP CONGRESS: 40 DAYS TO GO; OVER 40 EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS NOT TO BE MISSED

04 February 2016

The intellectual city of Vienna is preparing to host Europe’s largest hospital pharmacy event in just over 40 days, and the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP) wishes to make a final call to all education-hungry professionals not to miss the landmark calendar event in practice development and knowledge sharing.

The ever-growing programme of the Congress includes more than 40 sessions for hospital pharmacists of every level of experience to engage with and bring home new ideas and strategies for improvement. The theme of the 2016 Congress is focused on ‘Hospital pharmacists taking the lead – partnerships and technologies’ with particular attention being given to such developments as:

  • the redesign of services around the patient;
  • empowering patients through technology;
  • hospital pharmacists taking the lead in orphan drugs;
  • novel ways of dispensing drugs;
  • implementation of e-learning applications;
  • the hospital pharmacist and the eHealth revolution;
  • advanced therapy medicinal products: new competencies in hospital pharmacy;
  • individualised therapies – managing the differences; and,
  • implementing new technologies: key factors to success.

Speaking about the future-focused Congress programme, EAHP Director of Education, Science and Research Prof. Dr. Kees Neef, who chairs the independent Scientific Committee that sets the programme, said: “Each EAHP Congress programme is the result of months of brain storming with leading professionals across Europe in order to identify the real topics that attention must be centred on in order to drive continuous improvement in hospital pharmacy in all European countries. eHealth, individualised therapies, patient centred services – all of these and more are integral parts of what hospital pharmacy is becoming. Through this Congress, lessons will be shared, the latest practice knowledge transmitted, and strategies for the future articulated. We therefore want as many colleagues to join us in Vienna so we can coordinate together the ongoing elevation of the hospital pharmacist role in delivering excellence in care to the patient.”

Joan Peppard, President of EAHP added: “Practice improvement does not simply occur by itself. It happens when motivated individuals develop new ideas for how positive change can be delivered in their own setting; when real life experience from elsewhere can be made applicable to where they are; and when strategies for success are implanted by learning from others. That’s what the EAHP Congress is all about, and why I urge my professional colleagues to join us in Vienna for another high point in hospital pharmacy education provision.”

We thank again our Platinum partners, Bayer and Roche, Gold Partner, Amgen and Silver partner, Pfizer for their support.
