Student internship programme – February 2018
Internship – state of play
9 students are currently waiting for their internship placement (overview HERE). All have applied for several different hospitals. The response rate from hospitals is not great. It always takes a very long time as well as several follow up emails, before Črtomir receives a reply from a hospital. We currently have large problems with French-speaking hospitals. A large number of students is interested in a French placement. However, the 2 hospitals that we have in mainland France are not able to take interns at the moment. The 3rd French-speaking placement we have is on Reunion Island which is too far and too expensive for most students.
Awareness/ communication with hospitals
The awareness about the programme on the side of the students is sufficient. We have a surplus of applications in respect to the number of placements we can offer. Consequently, we should not invest more time in promoting the programme. There is however a need to increase the number of hospital placement. In particular we are looking for hospitals that accept English speaking interns and those that offer internships in French.
Moreover, interns who have completed an internship to the greatest possible extent. Črtomir is currently collecting feedback from 2 interns that had a very positive experience last year. He has requested information in relation to the following areas:
- How did you feel during the internship?
- What did you like most during your internship?
- In what way did the internship complement your education?
- How did the internship impact your perspective on hospital pharmacy?
SK has sent an email to all hospitals inquiring about their willingness to host students in 2018.
