The EAHP Board, elected for three-year terms, oversees the association’s activities. Comprising directors responsible for core functions, it meets regularly to implement strategic goals. Supported by EAHP staff, the Board controls finances, coordinates congress organization, and ensures compliance with statutes and codes of conduct.

Link back to April 2016 Board Meeting agenda here.
1) Review of EU Action Plan on AMR
On 16 February TMG attended a European Commission sponsored workshop to evaluate the EU’s Action Plan on AMR. More information here. TMG report of the meeting here. Formal report of the meeting here.
Catalogued on Sharepoint here.
A future meeting is scheduled for 25 May in Luxembourg with the title “Antimicrobial resistance: preparation of EU guidelines on prudent use of antimicrobials in human health”. More information here and here.
Catalogued on Sharepoint here.
In addition, the European Public Health Alliance (EPHA) has made AMR a priority campaign for 2016 and is carrying EAHP messages to the Commission on issues such as: stronger urgency in the policy sphere; need to define healthcare professional roles on prudence and stewardship; action in veterinary, agriculture and other sectors.
Some of this EPHA led activity catalogued on Sharepoint here.
2) Dutch EU Presidency and AMR
On the 10th February 2016 the Dutch EU Presidency held a Ministerial conference on the topic of AMR. It took as its focus the ‘One Health’ dimension to the problem, inviting both agriculture and health ministers and officials to the event. It was part of a preliminary process towards forming Council conclusions on the topic before the end of June 2016. More information about the conference here and here.
Informal Council Conclusions are apparently already in a drafted stage. The European Public Health Alliance has been making representations on this issue, including carrying EAHP messages for greater clarification of healthcare professional roles in prevention, and general recommendation for greater EU ambition in its AMR activity.
RP will represent EAHP at a further forthcoming Dutch Presidency event on AMR in June 2016 and take opportunities from the floor to promote the roles of hospital pharmacists. Information here.
3) ECDC and AMR
On 1st April, TMG attended an event of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) “to provide input to the Technical Advisory Committee of the European Antibiotic Awareness Day” and “reviewing the current EAAD toolkit for hospital prescribers and suggesting ways by which ECDC could update it”. More information here. A verbal report will be provided at the Board Meeting.
4) Relevant developments in the veterinary sector
EAHP responded to the EMA consultation on a new strategy for the Committee on Veterinary Medicinal ProductS (CVMP) on antimicrobials (2016-2020). Main points made were to call for more ambition within the strategy and for greater evaluation of effectiveness throughout its duration. Response here.
To also note some promising developments in relation to prospective tighter EU regulation on antimicrobial use in the veterinary sector. More information here.
5) Other
To be aware the issue of AMR has now entered into the debate over the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). More information here.
