August 2012, Volume 19, Issue 4

Issue 4 contains reports on inappropriate drug combinations in adult versus geriatric patients in a psychiatric setting and the stability of diluted epinephrine in prefilled syringes for use in neonatology.

The first EJHP summary article is published in Issue 4 in relation to the EAHP 2010 Survey of hospital pharmacy practise across Europe. The article focuses on comparative staffing issues in hospital pharmacies. In national news, the issue features an explanation of the medication classification system in Belgium.

In an opinion piece Irene Krämer asks if newly approved oncology treatments represent value for money. Mark Nolan summarises recent drug news and some promising advances in prostate cancer treatment. Gerardo Cajaraville and María-José Tamés reflect on the need for a pro-active role for oncology pharmacists and Gillian Cavell highlights the need for a safer presentation of intravenous paracetamol.

Finally, in a country focus on Portugal, a series of articles examine quality management systems in Portuguese hospital pharmacies, a day in the life of a hospital pharmacy team in a Portuguese cancer centre, education and training of hospital pharmacists in Portugal and a preview of the 2012 Portuguese Association of Hospital Pharmacists National Congress.
