Description of the Hospital           

The Uppsala University Hospital is an outsanding teaching and public funded hospital located in Uppsala, Sweden. This hospital cannot provide financial grants to SILCC Fellows but please keep in mind that EAHP can provide limited financial help to SILCC Fellows (contact the EAHP Implementation team at Statements@eahp.eu for more details about our financial help).

The pharmacy staff speaks both English and Swedish. Uppsala University Hospital will help SILCC Fellows to look for accomodation.

Description of the training

The Uppsala University Hospital will provide training on the following Statements:

S.1.7 “Hospital pharmacists must be involved in the design, specification of parameters and evaluation of ICT within the medicines processes. This will ensure that pharmacy services are integrated within the general Information and Communication Technology (ICT) framework of the hospital including electronic health (eHealth) and mobile health (mHealth) procedures.”

S 2.1 “Hospital pharmacists should be involved in the complex process of procurement of medicines. They should ensure transparent procurement processes are in place in line with best practice and national legislation, and based on the principles of safety, quality and efficacy of medicines.”

S 4.3 ” Hospital pharmacists should have access to the patients’ health record. Their clinical interventions should be documented in the patients’ health record and analysed to inform quality improvement interventions”

S 5.5 “Hospital pharmacists should help to decrease the risk of medication errors by disseminating evidence-based approaches to error reduction including computerised decision support

S 6.4 “Hospital pharmacists should actively engage in and publish research, particularly on hospital pharmacy practice. Research methods should be part of undergraduate and postgraduate training programmes for hospital pharmacists.”

Outline of the training experience provided by the Uppsala University Hospital:

The Uppsala Hospital University has the most developed and diverse clinical pharmacy services in Sweden and host frequent national and international study visits. We are very research oriented and currently run a large multi-centre study (pharmacy practice research, medication reviews). The hospital pharmacy is in advanced stage of planning for complete automation of drug distribution and compounding”.
