Abstract
Hospital Pharmacists are an important part of the multidisciplinary team implementing “Antimicrobial Stewardship Programmes” in hospitals. Hospital pharmacists are therefore required to deal with infections and they should know about symptoms, diagnoses and different approaches to management of infections.
In this seminar six hospital pharmacists will present a clinical case focusing on an infectious disease. This will be followed by a discussion led by a panel of experts where the different therapeutic approaches will be discussed in depth. This will be an interactive session and participants will be involved in discussion and putting forward their recommendations.
Learning objectives
After the session, the participant should be able to:
•understand the importance of appropriate antimicrobial treatment and the implications associated with misuse of antimicrobials;
• explore the different therapeutic options that are available for the management of an individual patient;
• consider ways in which the pharmacist may contribute to antimicrobial stewardship as part of a multidisciplinary team.
