Abstract

With the existence of more and more advanced technologies e-learning becomes accessible to almost everyone and is a possible choice of teaching method in a number of settings. It is popular due to its flexibility with regard to time schedule of the user, mobility in the understanding of geography and low cost concerning teacher time and equipment.

However e-learning also has its drawbacks. Technology requirements such as suitable internet connections, compatible devices and programmes are a prerequisite, and the participants’ skills and attitude towards e-technology are of major importance. Some people might find the lack of discipline that a time schedule gives a challenge, particularly if they find it difficult to prioritise their time in order to conduct the on line module. The topic and the purpose of the teaching or training programme are of course also of major concern when deciding whether to use e-learning or not.

This seminar will discuss the different settings and opportunities in which e-learning might be considered as a possible teaching tool either as a stand alone concept or as a part of a blended learning strategy. The seminar will also present a case study where e learning has been used in providing a continuing educational programme for health care professionals.

Teaching goals:

• To demonstrate where e-learning could be considered the best option of teaching tool;
• To explain factors to consider when designing an educational programme using e-learning;
• To describe how an e-learning programme has been set-up and implemented in a health care setting.

Learning objectives

After the seminar, the participants should be able:
• to differentiate in which settings e-learning would be useful;
• to outline important aspects to consider when planning and implementing an e-learning programme.

Keywords: e-Learning, teaching tools.

Deadline extended to July 15th

Problems caused by shortages are serious, threaten patient care and require urgent action.

Help us provide an overview of the scale of the problem, as well as insights into the impact on overall patient care.

Our aim is to investigate the causes of medicine and medical device shortages in the hospital setting,  while also gathering effective solutions and best practices implemented at local, regional, and national levels.
