Abstract
Hospital Pharmacists are an important part of the multidisciplinary team implementing “Antimicrobial Stewardship Programmes” in hospitals. Hospital pharmacists are therefore required to deal with infections and they should know about symptoms, diagnoses and different approaches to the management of infections. In this seminar, hospital pharmacists will present a clinical case focusing on an infectious disease. This will be followed by a discussion led by a panel of experts where the different therapeutic approaches will be discussed in depth. This will be an interactive session and participants will be involved in the discussion and putting forward their recommendations.

Learning objectives
After the session, participants should be able to:
• describe and discuss the importance of appropriate antimicrobial treatment and the implications associated with misuse of antimicrobials;
• identify the different therapeutic options that are available for the management of an individual patient;
• investigate ways in which the pharmacist may contribute to antimicrobial stewardship as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Educational need addressed
Hospital pharmacists need to be aware of the importance of correct antimicrobial prescribing and their role in the multidisciplinary antimicrobial stewardship team.

Keywords: antimicrobial stewardship, hospital pharmacists, antibiotics, resistance, multidisciplinary team.
