Room:

Synergy Auditorium 2

Facilitator:

Abstract:

Delia Bornand

Hospital Pharmacist
Head of Clinical Pharmacy, University Hospital Basel, Switzerland

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, the participants should:

  • Be familiar with the requirements of EAHP and EMRAM concerning Single Unit Dose and their use in the digitalization processes in hospitals

  • Know the advantages of Single Unit Dose packaging for hospital pharmacies and patients in hospitals – particularly during a pandemic

  • Understand the opportunity to implement Single Unit Dose medications into your hospital to minimize medication errors, to optimize distribution processes and to improve the workflow for you and your colleagues

Educational need addressed:
Hospital pharmacists need to ensure safe and hygienic medication handling. This includes easy and efficient medication administration to patients on hospital wards, increased patient safety by avoiding medication errors (bedside scanning) and improved efficiency of hospital processes through seamless identification and traceability of medications within the hospital’s drug chain. The single unit dose (SUD) packaging – such as the Rivaroxaban SUD – addresses these needs and offers a simple solution for hospitals – even if hospitals are not fully digitalized.
