1. Current Status, Position

Prof. Kristin Verbeke is responsible for the 13C and H2-breath testing within the University Hospitals Leuven. These are functional diagnostic tests used in routine in clinical gastroenterology. Besides, Prof Verbeke is
the head of a research laboratory within TARGID that uses amongst others, stable isotope techniques to quantify the colonic bacterial metabolism in humans and its implications for health.

2. Education

Prof. Kristin Verbeke obtained the degree of Pharmacist from KU Leuven (Leuven, Belgium) in 1991 and subsequently a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the same university in 1995 for her work on radioactive labelling of proteins. In 2002, she was appointed at the faculty of medicine where she started working with stable isotopes.

3. Research Area

The main research activities of Prof. K.Verbeke involve the elucidation of the colonic bacterial metabolism and its impact on host health.
