EAHP’s 2023 Medicines Shortages report has been published. Find the report here.

Between March and May 2023, EAHP collected data for the 2023 Shortage Survey. It focused on medicinal products and medical devices and targetted the impact of both medicine and medical device shortages in the hospital environment. In addition to hospital pharmacists, EAHP sought input from patients and all healthcare professionals working in hospitals.

Thank you to those that participated!

EAHP has been advocating on the issue of medicine shortages for more than a decade. Five surveys were conducted by EAHP in 2013, 2014, 2018, 2019 and 2020, with the last one focusing also on the pandemic preparedness of pharmacists. The results of these surveys have provided an overview of the severity of the problem as well as its impact on overall patient care.

Medicine shortages cause serious problems for patients, health professionals and health systems. Hospital pharmacists play a key role in managing medicine shortages within hospitals, but they are not the only stakeholders which are affected. This is why EAHP has invited other stakeholders, including healthcare professionals and patients, to provide their input on how shortages are affecting them.
