Barcoding – Market readiness project
A teleconference with hospital pharmacists from Belgium, the Netherlands and Norway took place on Monday 21st September on how to meet EFPIA’s request for information on market readiness within the European hospital sector to make use of single unit bar coding. Background paper here. A verbal update from the 21 September teleconference will be provided at the September Board Meeting
EAHP understands from a recent meeting with Andreas Walter at EFPIA that, following internal reorganisation, a new “Supply Chain Working Group” of EFPIA will consider EAHP’s single unit barcoding request on 2nd December 2015.
The concept would be to provide market readiness information to EFPIA in time for this meeting.
Barcoding – EGA collaboration
Work has now commenced in respect of the previously discussed collaboration between EAHP and EGA on topics including single unit bar coding.
The most recent early initial draft of such a paper is available here.
The key outcome for EAHP in this exercise is an on-paper commitment/acknowledgement/strategy from the generics industry in respect of single unit barcoding, a foothold from which further progress might be made (e.g. collaboration in a working group with EFPIA, dependent on 2nd December decisions – see above).
To also note EGA has created a new hospital working group, for which this collaboration paper will be an early piece of scrutiny and development activity. The group met this week, and some early feedback on the intiative has been provided here.
Barcoding – GS1 Healthcare conference
EAHP will be facilitating a repeated session at the GS1 Healthcare Conference in Budapest on the topic of bedside scanning. Speakers will include a nurse from UZ Leuven, a doctor from Geneva and relevant persons from industry.
