The EAHP Board, elected for three-year terms, oversees the association’s activities. Comprising directors responsible for core functions, it meets regularly to implement strategic goals. Supported by EAHP staff, the Board controls finances, coordinates congress organization, and ensures compliance with statutes and codes of conduct.
Sept 14 Board Meeting Agenda item 13b bar coding and devices
Since the last meeting
The secretariat continues to remind EFPIA of their undertaking to construct a working group on the topic of single unit bar coding, though news was expected connected to an October EFPIA Board meeting.
Francois Bouvy confirmed again this week their intention for a 'workstream' on the topic (here).
GS1 also informed of activity that GSK and Roche are leading on this topic (here)
Collaboration with GS1 continues, with a recent presentation given by the PAO to a GS1 organised webinar of international stakeholders. There was potentially usefully feedback from this webinar e.g. from the UK and Republic of Ireland (here and here).
In relation to bar coding and medical devices, a bar coding working group of EUCOMED (European device industry trade association) are keen to engage with EAHP and its members about user needs to be taken into consideration in respect of the future medical device regulation and its requirements for device UDI from manufacture to patient use. The PAO attended a question and answer meeting with the EUCOMED working group on September 9th at which Thomas De Rijdt gave a good explanation of some of the hospital pharmacy needs around device bar coding. The PAO would like to discuss with the Board whether EAHP should utilise this moment of opportunity to shape device traceability in the future by convening a pool of experts to feed in views and opinions to EUCOMED, the Commission, the Parliament and Governments on this issue in more strategic way than at present.
In connected news, the European Commission have confirmed they will send a speaker to the Hamburg Congress seminar on medical device issues.
