The EAHP Board, elected for three-year terms, oversees the association’s activities. Comprising directors responsible for core functions, it meets regularly to implement strategic goals. Supported by EAHP staff, the Board controls finances, coordinates congress organization, and ensures compliance with statutes and codes of conduct.
Antimicrobial resistance – February 2019
EAAD 2018
SA and SK attended the EAAD 2018 which focused on the dissemination of new data collected by ECDC and OECD. SA made a brief statement during the event underlining the importance of stewardship teams that involve hospital pharmacists.
ECDC 2019 survey activity
On 28th January, ECDC released a survey that aims at assessing healthcare workers’ antibiotic use and resistance. SA contributed to the design of the survey. The Policy Team alerted members in mid-January and shared the survey link with members on 28th January. The consultation period will end on 14th February. Board members are encouraged to respond.
EU-JAMRAI
EAHP officially joined the Stakeholder Forum of EU-JAMRAI. SA attended the 1st annual meeting of the initiative in early November. EAHP signed the Memorandum of Understanding in November and mailed it by post to the organisers. The copy has not yet been sent back to us.
EPHA – AMR Working Group/ Thematic network on AMR
EPHA’s AMR working group stared to operate in fall 2018 due to the addition of a new staff member. Ann Marie Borg primarily focused her activity on the collection of information on national AMR action plans. The results of this data collection activity will be shared with the public in early 2019. Also the activities of the thematic network on AMR were restarted with a meeting of interested parties that have signed the joint statement on AMR in early 2018. EPHA mainly used the event to obtain information from ‘national member associations’ on their AMR initiatives. In addition, extensive background information relating to the revision of national AMR action plans was shared by Ann Marie Borg.
Pharmaceuticals in the environment
SA, KN, NM and SK worked on the further development of the ‘EAHP opinion on pharmaceuticals in the environment. See document HERE
The Board should decide if EAHP should adopt an opinion on pharmaceuticals in the environment.
European Clinical Research Alliance on Infectious Disease (ECRAID) Stakeholder Advisory Panel
SA attended the kick-off meeting of ECRAID in mid-January.
EU Influenza Manifesto
EAHP endorsed the EU Influenza Manifesto. In early January 2019, SK and VD met with Hanover Consulting – the entity that runs the EU Influenza Manifesto – to obtain more information on the future plans of the initiative. EU Influenza Manifesto is planning to engage actively during the EU Influenza week in April 2019. NM has been encouraged to join the calls of the Steering Committee of the EU Influenza Manifesto from time-to-time to input on elements relevant to hospital pharmacy.
The endorsement should be publicised after the Board meeting. This could be linked to the publication of an EAHP opinion on vaccination (see below).
EAHP opinion on vaccination
Given the Commission’s active engagement in the field of vaccination and the publication of Council Recommendations in December 2018, NM and SK worked on an ‘EAHP opinion on vaccination’. See document HERE
The Board should decide if EAHP should adopt an opinion on vaccination.
ESNO activities – AMR position/ vaccination guide
Ber Oomen has repeatedly turned down requests to meet with him (or other representatives of ESNO) to speak about ESNO’s activities in relation to AMR and vaccination.
In November 2018, ESNO published a position on AMR (see HERE). The statement advocates for a stronger involvement of nurses and announces the publication of an ‘Information and Communication Guide on AMR’ to ensure that nurses across Europe can access accurate, consistent information on drug resistance. The guide should be published in April 2020 and it will also address vaccination. A draft is expected to be produced by the working group in January 2019 (more information see HERE)
SK will attend ESNO’s Congress in February 2019 to obtain further information on ESNO activities since a bilateral meeting with Ber Oomen is not possible. In this regard, it should be noted that Ber initiated contact with EAHP, PGEU and EPF after the EAAD 2018 to discuss AMR. However, he never followed-up and confirmed a meeting date.
