Medicines Shortages
The April Board meeting provides an opportunity to reflect on the BCN Congress Members Meeting on medicines shortages, results so far from the 2014 EAHP survey and proposed advocacy activity in the June to October period. The PAO will also give a verbal update on the progress towards achieving a European Commission funded research network on the topic of shortages via the COST programme.

The report will then be the principal lobbying tool of EAHP and Member Association lobbying efforts in the run up to the October 2014 EPSCO council meeting.
COST Application
On 11 April, under the leadership of Prof Helena Jenzer, EAHP submitted an application to the Commission funding mechanism called COST (Cooperation in Science and Technology) to form a research network on medicines shortages.
Application here.
If successful, the Commission would then fund activities to bring researchers in the area together (e.g. conferences, websites and print material production).
In operation since the 1970s, COST is a flexible tool, enabling research network members to join and leave at different times. More information here.
Plan for June to October activity
As per BCN Members Meeting, the Survey results will provide the basis for a new report on the status of medicines shortages in Europe, which will be the principal lobbying tool for members to take to their national governments, and promote the issue for discussion at the October EPSCO Council meeting.
