10.4 eHealth and medicines barcoding
Return to January 2016 Board Agenda here.
A) eHealth
EAHP are invited to renew its membership of the Commission’s eHealth stakeholder group by the end of January. Leonidas advises that the group is becoming increasingly political in nature rather than technical and therefore a representative from the Board may be better placed to connect representation to other European political perspectives.
To note Med-e-Tel conference 6-8 April 2016 at which there will be a pharmacy session. EAHP are invited to make contribution.
Rob has also received information about opportunities to put hospital pharmacy issues on the agenda of the Dutch Presidency’s eHealth week in Amsterdam. More information here.
B) mHealth
EAHP has been accepted as a represented organisation within the Commission’s mHealth assessment guidelines group. Rob Moss will be our lead representative. See membership of group here and associated press announcement.
C) barcoding
To see report of November 2015 meeting with the European Generic and Biosimilar Association (EGA) to explore joint positioning on barcoding and other issues. Report here.
EGA wish to take the opportunity of their time at Congress to have a workshop between hospital pharmacists and figures from generics industry to explore areas of joint interest such as barcoding, but also shortages prevention, value added services etc. Some recent correspondence here.
D) Other
EAHP was contacted by GS1 in relation to a medication safety campaigning group called EZDrugID. Rob Moss and I participated in a conference call to find out more about the background to the organisation and what GS1 had in mind. GS1 would like the group to pick up further on issues such as medicines barcoding. Matters are at a very early and exploratory stage however. GS1 will take forward contact and keep us informed. The Group appears to be led by a group of anaesthetists. EAHP asked for background to be provided on this. To await developments.
