Abstract
Hospital pharmacists are increasingly recognised as clinical partners who are vital to ensuring medication safety, stewardship, therapeutic optimisation, and cost-effective operational delivery in hospitals. However, involvement remains uneven across countries and institutions; while some places have well-developed ward-based clinical pharmacy services, others continue to centre pharmacists primarily in dispensary and operational roles. At the same time, hospital pharmacy is essential for system resilience, particularly in managing medicine shortages, supply chains, and compounding services. There is a growing push for expanded clinical roles, including support for virtual wards, outpatient appointments, and greater integration into multidisciplinary teams. With rising expectations from clinicians, managers, and patients for a broader and deeper pharmacy presence, it has become increasingly important for pharmacy departments to demonstrate and clearly communicate the measurable impact of their services.
This session equips hospital pharmacists with practical strategies to elevate the visibility of their work within healthcare settings and in the broader community. Participants will learn how to communicate their contributions to patient care and healthcare efficiency through strategic communication, patient-centred messaging, and the effective use of media, including social platforms. In addition, attendees will explore approaches to community engagement, such as hosting health events, as well as methods to increase awareness within hospitals using posters, digital displays, case studies, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The session also addresses innovative educational outreach, including workshops, school engagement, open days, and the use of immersive experiences to highlight pharmacy roles and attract future professionals.
By improving the visibility of hospital pharmacy services, their contributions are more fully recognised, supporting high-quality patient care, stronger healthcare systems, and sustained investment in service development. This workshop provides participants with practical tools to articulate and showcase the indispensable role of hospital pharmacy teams.

Learning Objectives
– Identify effective strategies for communicating hospital pharmacy teams’ roles to healthcare professionals, health system stakeholders and the public.
– Analyse methods to raise visibility of pharmacy services through interdisciplinary and community engagement.
– Apply advocacy and leadership principles to gain institutional and policy-level recognition of hospital pharmacy services.

Educational need addressed
This session addresses the need to enhance the visibility and recognition of hospital pharmacy teams, whose vital contributions often go unnoticed. It equips participants with communication and outreach skills to showcase their impact on patient care, medication safety, and healthcare efficiency. Through innovative strategies, it aims to foster greater appreciation for the role of the hospital pharmacist.
